'Oh to be a liberal': CNN does a nice profile of Shaun King after he passed on that tip

Listen, we’re grateful that writer and “social activist” Shaun King used his social media clout to help find the killer of Jazmine Barnes, a 7-year-old Houston girl who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting last week.

CNN even wrote a nice piece on King, although it took a few paragraphs to get to the part where King put out an “all hands on deck” tweet and also tweeted to more than one million followers a mugshot of a “racist, violent a**hole” who didn’t do it.

Dakin Andone reports:

[Harris County Sheriff Ed] Gonzalez said Sunday that one of King’s tips “provided a much different angle to what we were initially looking at,” alluding to the fact authorities initially said the suspect was a white man in his 40s driving a red pickup truck. Black is a 20-year-old African-American man. The white man in the red truck was likely just a witness, the sheriff told reporters.

That’s one way of putting it, although as he has a habit of doing, King said in a tweet that a 40-year-old man in a pickup truck shot and killed Barnes … which he didn’t.

Again, we’re glad that one of King’s tips led to the capture of the real suspect, but CNN apparently had no interest in the above tweet, or the time King falsely spread word to his million-plus followers that a Texas trooper sexually assaulted a woman — and then wrote a follow-up blog post in which he never apologized to the trooper he smeared.

Again, we’re glad the real suspect was caught, but CNN kind of glossed over the part where King fingered the wrong guy … again.

You know, there are a lot of drive-by shootings in places like Chicago and Baltimore and Detroit … wonder why CNN gave this one special attention?

A journalist like King should know that the words “alleged” and “person of interest” are his friends.
