KQED literally reported that “Republicans seized” — and not just Republicans, but QAnon — on California State Sen. Scott Wiener’s bill that would give judges discretion over sex-offender registration in all cases involving voluntary intercourse between teenagers ages 14 to 17, who cannot legally consent, and adults who are less than 10 years older. QAnon called it legalizing pedophilia.
“You might think the claim that California has legalized pedophilia wouldn’t pass the smell test with most people. Not in 2020, when certain Republican politicians have seized on the passage of a law regarding sex offenders as an opportunity to rally QAnon believers, a growing and active group of conspiracy theorists,” wrote Rachael Myrow.

Saturdays always turn out to be LGBTQIA+ days for me, it seems. Fortunately, there were a few other topics, but I wanted to touch on this video clip. Oli London does some great reporting, but I think he’s misinterpreted the video. LGBT Activist Peter Tatchell doesn’t come out and say that a 9-year-old can consent to sex with a 50-year-old man; what he says is that a 50-year-old man looks back at his sexual experience at age 9 and says it was consensual and his choice. He admits that in most cases that would be abuse, but who are we to question the man who says he doesn’t regret it?
