The news broke Tuesday night that the US Consumer Product Safety Commission was considering a ban on gas stoves, which (allegedly) cause childhood asthma. They’re now trying to walk that back, saying a ban was never on the table and the idea was only “floated” by Commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. in an interview with Bloomberg.
Some are complaining that the media has turned the issue unnecessarily into a culture war, with conservatives saying you can pry their gas stoves from their warm, evenly heated hands. California State Senator Scott Wiener has a message for all you dumb conservatives: Gas stoves (which are toxic) are a “blue state thing.”
Conservatives are trying to make protecting gas stoves — which are toxic — a culture war issue.
What they don’t appear to realize is that gas stoves are a blue state thing. People in red states predominantly use electric stoves.
