It was just a couple of weeks ago that Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt appeared to have a total meltdown on Twitter. This was a day after he went scorched earth on The Lincoln Project. His Twitter threads were trending toward the completely unhinged.
It seems he’s calmed down enough to write a piece for his Substack newsletter. He’s found a way to kill the MAGA threat: have Liz Cheney declare a run for president as a conservative (a Republican conservative?).
“All that has to happen is for Liz Cheney to say, “I’m running for president as a conservative. I’ll be on the ballot in all 50 states. Join me.” If she holds that line, MAGA is over as a political threat.”https://t.co/sXH4EuJnns

He writes:
The American two-party system has failed. This moment of national crisis demands the creation of a new political party that will serve as a coalition partner to the Democratic Party. It must defend the United States Constitution and the American Republic from the extremist movement that threatens it, and is currently headed by Donald Trump.
…
Liz Cheney is the most famous of the 10 impeachment managers who lost their political careers within the Republican Party for opposing Donald Trump. Congresswoman Cheney has often said that she will do anything within her power to make sure that Donald Trump never returns to the Oval Office.

That’s as much of the plan we can reveal without paying to subscribe to Schmidt’s Substack, so we’ll leave it at that. So she runs as part of a new political party dedicated to keeping Donald Trump from serving another term … that’s her platform?

Is this Schmidt’s low-key application to be her campaign manager? Is that the grift this time?
