We get it … Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg wants everyone either riding bicycles or trains. But while everyone’s concern is the supply chain, Buttigieg is back to talking about the way we design roads, and not just to deconstruct the racism built into them. It’s nice to have goals, but it’s even nicer to have someone competent running the show.

Just lower the speed limit to 10 mph.

We don't live in this fantasy land, toy train Petey. Life comes with risk, including driving. Focus on the supply chain issues instead of this utopian nonsense.

Can't wait for this day. I will hop on my unicorn, while clutching my Care Bear, and dreamily ride off into the sunset.

Reduce highway speed limits to 20 mph

This is not a serious person.

Who wants to tell him he still has a supply chain to fix?

The law of diminishing returns is a thing too, and that might make one second guess a “0 deaths goal” like that.
— El Burro de Tejas (@elburrodetejas) January 27, 2022
So, no one can drive anymore?

A goal that could only be reached by totalitarian means.
Pick a better goal. Please.

The inability of adult human beings to understand the concept of tradeoffs is truly a wonder to beholdhttps://t.co/sJ9JeQwGP3
— David Burge (@iowahawkblog) January 27, 2022
Yep, at some point the trade-offs to keep you “safe” make you miserably un-free.

If you set goals that are unattainable – they will provide cover for the never ending expansion of the taking of power to enact those goals … smart, very smart….

That's the adult equivalent of a middle school class president promising a fruit punch water fountain.
— Gert B. Frobe (@ThumblessGrasp) January 27, 2022
This is an unserious and juvenile mindset. Life is a series of risk benefit evaluations. Politicians telling you otherwise is mendacious
— Wallace E. Rhymes, III (@wallacerhymes) January 27, 2022
This will be used to justify obscene monetary penalties for minor traffic infringements. Just another money making scheme for the state.
— John (@MrHandsome703) January 27, 2022
The goal is… zero deaths. If we're being unrealistic, why not negative deaths? Build roads that cure cancer!
— Blah de Vivre (@blahdevivre) January 27, 2022
Don’t forget the time candidate Joe Biden said he’d cure cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes if elected president. Just not COVID.

Translation: we want you to stop buying cars and rely in public transportation so we can micromanage your lives because "global warming"
— Herrmann8er (@Herrmann8er) January 27, 2022
Yep.
So, this is what he’s doing so he doesn’t have to focus on the supply chain crisis?

“We’ve failed at everything so far, so now we are changing this up by setting a goal that everybody absolutely knows is unattainable.”

Is he implying all the other secretaries wanted traffic deaths? Or does he have the gall to insist this is outside-the-box thinking?
— Allie Snackbar (@Angry_Thumbs) January 27, 2022
Do the words "risk assessment" mean anything?
Please just let us live like human beings.
Because no matter what you do…no matter how much you try to avoid … whatever you're trying to avoid … you are going to die.
Everyone is going to die. Everyone.
