As Twitchy reported earlier Thursday, 145 CEOs from companies such as Uber, Levi Strauss, AirBnB, Yelp, and Dick’s Sporting Goods signed onto a letter demanding that Senate do something about gun violence and mass shootings.
KTLA Morning News in Los Angeles did a segment on the letter Thursday, featuring consumer columnist David Lazarus, who seemed pretty excited about the idea. He also tweeted this Thursday, if it gives you a better idea of where he’s coming from:
Imagine if a major political party embraced guns but rejected science
— David Lazarus (@Davidlaz) September 12, 2019
We’ve got a better one: Imagine if journalists reporting on guns knew what they were talking about? Democrats calling for mandatory buybacks and confiscation leaving themselves some breathing room, saying they’re only going after “assault weapons” and “weapons of war” — like AR-15s.
So it was troubling to one viewer to hear Lazarus report on gun control while the TV station broadcast slowed-down footage of fully-automatic rifles, which certainly aren’t tricked-out AR-15s and are for all intents and purposes illegal to own.
So @KTLAMorningNews has decided they’re going to be just another one of those “news shows” that run footage of people shooting what are obviously machine guns while doing a story about gun legislation? #smh

They did? ??♂️
— Nathan (@NateDog_LA) September 12, 2019
They slowed the footage down, but yeah. BTW, blacklisting companies that don’t pass political tests is just about the dumbest idea ever, because it can only get worse. pic.twitter.com/fjJ6Tk2uhd

And voila, your average viewer who knows nothing about guns now thinks that Beto O’Rourke is going to confiscate everyone’s machine guns.
Hey @KTLAMorningNews , y’all just going to air footage of full auto rifles in a story about semi auto and act like this proposed legislation deals with that? This is journalism? https://t.co/eodSiDrLz6
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) September 12, 2019
News =/= journalism anymore. That much should be obvious to all.
— Seth Peters (@unsurprisedbyit) September 12, 2019
Why yes. This IS journalism here in 2019
— Mike Baio, PGR (@MikeBaio) September 12, 2019
One of the main problems with the gun control debate is that for the most part the left has no idea what the hell they're talking about. They know nothing about guns and don't seem too eager to learn and understand
— Kaitlin (@Kaitlin39588209) September 12, 2019
KTLA should have gone all out and aired footage of the AR-15 with the chainsaw bayonet attachment. Firing full-auto.
I've seen this kind of intentionally dishonest reporting for decades. They want to confuse the public into thinking the issue is about machine guns. They know exactly what they are doing and have no shame. Ends justify means 4 them.
— Rob Hill (@Rob_N_SoCal) September 12, 2019
What, you don't use belt-fed ammo with your semi-auto?
— The Small Investor (@SmallIvy_SI) September 12, 2019
This drives me nuts. I'm open to a reasonable debate about things, but it's all about public perception these days, and they pull these tricks, knowingly or not (probably not, the press knows crap about guns) and the average tv watcher believes it.

And miss an opportunity to scare the living daylights out of the ill informed? Not a chance.
— Steve (@Fthemarxists) September 12, 2019
they neither know the difference or care. all they know is that some rifles look scary, ergo, they MUST be machine guns. it advances that whole fake "weapons of war" meme. pic.twitter.com/wlSqwkzslN

Playing the ignorant, because the facts don't work for their agenda. Makes me sick.

Deception is their main goal…

What was once journalism is now activism. And not well informed activism, either.

And you idiots get offended when you get called Fake News.
