As we’ve mentioned before, the gun control activists who emerged from the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., seemed to zero in on two targets in particular: the NRA and the AR-15.
The AR-15 was so demonized that network anchors started comparing the velocity of bullets shot from different guns and people began excusing the school resource officer who did nothing to engage the shooter because he was armed with only a handgun and its relatively “slow” bullets — of course he’d hide in a stairwell.
It seems Emma Gonzalez, one of the most vocal and well-recognized of the Parkland gun control activists, is still railing against the AR-15 in particular and thinks you ought to join the military if you want to fire a rifle like that.
Parkland gun control activist @Emma4Change says "go serve your fucking country" if you want to shoot a "weapon."
"You don't need an AR-15 to protect yourself in bed from a robber at night. You don't need an AR-15 to have fun at a shooting range." pic.twitter.com/0gyXOKzHPv

“You don’t need…” are three words which have launched countless arguments, but in a free country, it’s really not up to the government or a bunch of teenagers to determine what people “need” let alone what they just plain want.
I did serve my country. I put on a uniform and boots and I carried what she would call an "assault rifle." I did it so that neither she nor anyone else could tell any American citizen what they do or do not need. https://t.co/NOp8X8flS4

I did, for 10 years and 2 combat tours. I don't ask for, or expect, a single thing as a result of my service. How about people quit telling me how to live my life, and what I do and do not "need." P.S… you're welcome for the privilege to say dumb things. https://t.co/NHFTKhEFNm

I served my country, and still do as a civilian, to preserve this petulant child's right to say such ridiculous things. Make no mistake, she thinks taking guns away from me will make her more safe. Salty language doesn't make you more serious. #veteran https://t.co/OSvUvrSuhz

The beauty, and the brilliance, of our Constitution means that this girl has the right to voice her opinion, while simultaneously preventing an emotional response to tragedy affecting my right to responsibly own a tool that can protect my family if necessary. https://t.co/aUa3cqD4k9

The great thing about America and the constitution is that you dont make that decision for me. I do. Maybe @Emma4Change and @davidhogg111 should think about serving their "f-ing country". It might do them some good. https://t.co/fOy4fgUiB9

I hate when people say "You don't need it to defend yourself" because they don't know what people need. There is no single weapon platform that works for everyone. Something that works for one person could be completely inadequate for another. https://t.co/k7MnfIYZUI

I'd like to hear @Emma4Change tell that to the TX family who did use an AR-15 to defend themselves against 6 punks who invaded their home. Or to other victims of violent crime. You were lucky enough to escape a violent crime. That doesn't give you the right to dictate to others. https://t.co/jLPShMHrYC

You don't tell me what to do, Emma.

Sorry @Emma4Change,
Veterans, NRA members and Pro-#2A people cannot hear you over the sound of their freedom ringing.
Sincerely,
A Dutch Pro-#2A man. https://t.co/gAr4isL592

It's not the Bill of Needs, and anyway Rosa Parks didn't need to sit in the front of the bus, and no one needs a cake for their wedding.

She's obviously never gone to a range & shot one of the "scary looking" guns! https://t.co/OSOrinYeCZ

If she had, she might have been called out of class and interrogated about it by school officials and law enforcement officers.
I don't need it.
I WANT IT. And it's my Right to want it. https://t.co/KZLREeBbin
