The Left loves power, and it loves to lord that power over the rest of us. They do so unabashedly, and they often openly mock the fact the rules they force us to abide by just simply don't apply to them. This is illustrated in many things they say and do, like the gas stove ban.
You and I? Nah. We're not allowed to have those. But Democrats like Kamala Harris and their favored political donors can keep theirs. This writer purchased a home with a gas stove and they will only pry it from her cold, dead hands, FYI.
But I digress.
The problem with the Left is not just that their policies are draconian, oppressive, and often unconstitutional but that they're also flaming hypocrites.
For a party that wants 'unity' and 'joy', they have zero qualms about dividing us by race and by who does and doesn't have to abide by the rules and making sure everyone is equally miserable.
Why? Because they're not only power-hungry, they find living under their own rules to be damaging, intolerable, and oppressive.
Welcome to our world, Democrats.
For a while, I've written about sanctuary cities. Those deep blue enclaves that liked to sneer at border cities and border states complaining about illegal immigration.
It's racist, they said, to oppose unfettered immigration.
And to prove how morally superior they are, they declare their cities -- like New York, Chicago, and Denver, to be welcoming havens for illegal immigrants.
Except it was all empty virtue signaling.
How do we know? Because the Left are furious someone called their bluff and made them live up to the definition of 'sanctuary city.'
Governors Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott proved this. They rightly decided it was unfair for states and cities that opposed illegal immigration to shoulder the burden, and sent busloads of illegal immigrants to the places that said such people would be welcome with open arms.
The reality of having a large influx of unemployed, undocumented, taxpayer-dependent freeloaders was harsh. In NYC alone, those illegal immigrants will cost The Big Apple $5 billion this year alone and double that in 2025. Special needs kids may be bumped from schools to make room for illegals. Voters from Boston to Chicago are fed up. In Denver, services to citizens are being cut to free up budget money for illegals.
Republicans were 'rewarded' because they made Democrats live under the crushing weight of their own policies. Democrats were happy to sneer at Texas border towns overrun with illegals, because they thought they'd never have to deal with the problems themselves.
Their rules, after all, are for the little guy. Or so they thought. Abbott and DeSantis disabused them of that notion, when it comes to illegal immigration.
But that's not the only rule the Left finds intolerable to live under. Look at how they melt down when cancel culture comes for one of their own, for example.
The 2024 election will kick into high gear after Labor Day, and one of the things voters should keep in mind is that the Harris-Walz ticket is the one that endorses 'rules for thee, but not for me' in a grand fashion. Their agenda is clear: outlaw guns, private insurance, red meat. Enforce restrictions on 'hate speech' and 'disinformation' (even a national hate speech registry!). Allow unfettered illegal immigration and open borders. Impose price controls that guarantee empty shelves and starving people.
All of which will negatively impact you and I, but not them. Because history has shown us it never does. By their design.
They are, after all, (D)ifferent.
And they should not be rewarded for it at the ballot box.
