As we told you yesterday, CBS News’ Scott Pelley was teasing an upcoming “60 Minutes” interview with former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and it caught the attention of Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham and many others:
.@ScottPelley on what McCabe told @60Minutes: "There were meetings at the Justice Department at which it was discussed whether the vice president and a majority of the cabinet could be brought together to remove the president of the United States under the 25th Amendment." pic.twitter.com/iVAyrEV4MF

Sounds like talk of a “coup” was going on within the FBI, right? However, McCabe’s spokesperson has released a statement.
Woah – McCabe spokesperson issues statement clarifying the discussion about the 25th Amendment. https://t.co/KTZi6JyhzW

Spokeswoman to Andrew McCabe says certain statements attributed to McCabe have been taken out of context or misrepresented, and he never participated in any extended discussions of the 25th amendment: https://t.co/2dra9FSFb6

Whoa…backing away from what many perceive to be a brazen notion of a political coup. Still, need to understand who was "counting noses" and why? https://t.co/MPB4BzmoHj

A lot remains to be seen and heard.
Seems like CBS has some explaining to do.
Shouldn't be hard to just release the tape of the interview. https://t.co/1w7a3MXDKl

He literally said that he did have those discussions. Keep trying to backpedal.

So are McCabe and his spokesperson basically accusing CBS of pushing “fake news”? Because we thought that was a direct threat to “democracy,” but maybe that’s only when Trump says it.
