Well, that was a close one.
Just a short time ago, Consumer Product Safety Commission Chair Alexander D. Hoehn-Saric released a statement clarifying that even though Biden-appointed CPSC commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. floated the idea of a ban on gas stoves just a few days ago, the CPSC doesn’t actually have any plans to ban gas stoves.

Looks like we really dodged a bullet. Or, more accurately, the CPSC really dodged a bullet. In addition to facing the wrath of the American public, they may have also had to deal with the wrath of Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin:
This is a recipe for disaster. The federal government has no business telling American families how to cook their dinner. I can tell you the last thing that would ever leave my house is the gas stove that we cook on. https://t.co/8IEFM44UvE

If this is the greatest concern that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has for American consumers, I think we need to reevaluate the commission.
— Senator Joe Manchin (@Sen_JoeManchin) January 10, 2023
Oh, it’s definitely time to re-evaluate the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
But first, even more importantly, Joe Manchin should re-evaluate the Democratic Party. You know, the party he has chosen to belong to. The party that consistently votes against the interests of his own constituents.
Manchin’s right that a ban on gas stoves is a garbage idea, but he’s wrong in thinking that he’s going to get any fist-pumps from conservatives for his bold, brave stand.
You voted for this, babe. https://t.co/R7WEWvPgde

GP Joe Manchin is shocked to discover his Democratic party that's been at war with fossil fuels since forever (and flat out lied to him about their intentions as to fossil fuel bans to secure his vote on several bills) is still at war with fossil fuels. https://t.co/YD3qmxKbkH

Dear @Sen_JoeManchin:
Your talk is cheap.
You vote for President Biden’s nominees.
And his radical legislative agenda. https://t.co/Z4bWYsT5N5

Why are you affiliated with these insane people ? https://t.co/RLXmVM3rKD

A fair question.
For the record, he’s not really getting many fist-pumps from liberals, either:
In the 2022 cycle, Joe Manchin was the top recipient of contributions from the gas & oil industry, which sees electrification as an existential threat to its business. He wasn't even up for reelection.
13% of current childhood asthma in the US is attributable to gas stove use. https://t.co/VFPPszNEMF

"Disaster" being fewer kids with asthma and less climate meltdown? wtf is he even talking about https://t.co/OPOMdZiSlg

I'm sure the "I drive a Maserati and sail on my river yacht" guy has strong feelings about gas stoves https://t.co/K3H284paS5

Because childhood asthma is a myth. smh 😡 https://t.co/NdBva08aNy

Joe, you disingenuous ass, this isn't about telling Americans how to cook. It's about telling Americans that there is evidence that gas stoves are connected to childhood asthma. YOU are a recipe for disaster. https://t.co/gMcvbrMWO4

Ouch. Tough break, Joe.
