So far, only Donald Trump has officially entered the 2024 GOP presidential race. But a lot of people expect Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to throw his hat into the ring at some point as well. And apparently that has prospective GOP voters pretty excited, if recent polling, including a poll from the Wall Street Journal, is anything to go by.
And that means that Ron DeSantis officially has a huge target on his back at which liberals are taking aim.
This will no doubt lead to more articles on how DeSantis is just Trump with better hair.
"Republican primary voters view Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis more favorably as a potential 2024 presidential nominee than they do former President Donald Trump"https://t.co/no5f3day1B

It's understandable why Democrats would want to make DeSantis into Trump 2.0. Even with his massive faults, Trump didn't lose to Biden by that much. They cannot afford to acknowledge that DeSantis would be a much more desirable outcome than Trump. https://t.co/xTxZ9V6ZQL

Late-night host Stephen Colbert isn’t wasting any time casting DeSantis as the Second Coming of Donald Trump. And he’s making sure that his team of writers don’t waste any time crafting quality material.
Watch:
.@StephenAtHome on a poll showing @GovRonDeSantis leading @realDonaldTrump in a 2024 GOP primary: "Hard to know who to root for here. That’s like a poll between gonorrhea & a slightly more racist gonorrhea. Apologies to gonorrhea.” pic.twitter.com/jdu69qA02A

Quick note before I get into Colbert’s dumb comedy routine:
Can we stop pretending that reading or saying the name TRUMP is so triggering it has to be censored? https://t.co/9BBzINmfn4

Seriously:
That crap is just so stale at this point.
Of course, so is Stephen Colbert’s comedy in general. So is Stephen Colbert in general, for that matter. It’s like he and his little brain trust sit down every day and try to come up with the saddest, lamest, most pathetic material they can and then somehow come up with something even worse than that.
They have one play in the playbook, and it’s not even good or funny. https://t.co/F6XpcSOKcR

The dummy in that gif is still less of a dummy than Stephen Colbert.
There's little difference at this point between SC and a satirical character in a dystopian story who's job is to be as obviously corrupt and propagandistic as possible. https://t.co/TdL9daECza

You’ve gotta hand it to Colbert: he is a very enthusiastic propagandist.
This clip is evidence @StephenAtHome is so scared. Good. They should be. https://t.co/KqfZyTqTsj

Not just scared, but downright terrified.
The “[Next Republican] is worse than Trump” narrative will be something to behold after 8 years of “Trump is the worst human to ever live” narrative.

Can’t say we didn’t see it coming.
The supposed existential threat to democracy must not be an existential threat to democracy if someone who is objectively better in every single regard is also treated as if he were an existential threat to democracy. That, or you’re just a partisan hack. https://t.co/RIVtr9hR03
