Well, this is all going just swimmingly.
Last week, BuzzFeed News Union congratulated their pals at Vox Union for their big win against The Man and securing of a big, beautiful benefits package that definitely won’t backfire and result in fewer full-time employees or cause Vox to go belly-up. BuzzFeed Union’s so convinced this is the right approach that after months of trying to make headway with management, they’re staging a walkout of their own:

How does one “demand voluntary recognition,” exactly?
BuzzFeed News staffers across the US are walking out today to demand that BuzzFeed management return to the table and recognize our union on fair terms that reflect the way our newsroom works. pic.twitter.com/FWLqbCv0qk

Since February, BuzzFeed has delayed, stood us up, refused to work toward compromises on key issues, and routinely taken positions that would severely undercut our union’s ability to protect workers.

BuzzFeed has offered us an unacceptable take-it-or-leave-it deal and walked away from the negotiating table. We demand that they continue working with us to reach a voluntary recognition agreement that does this newsroom justice.

We organized our newsroom because we care about each other and we want to make sure protections are in place to build a stronger newsroom and a stronger business — one where employees are respected and valued.

Yes! Vox is definitely “a great example” to follow.
We, the BuzzFeed News employees, are walking out to once again demonstrate to @buzzfeedben, @peretti, and the company’s management that our newsroom is united in our effort to unionize and that we will not be intimidated by attempts to undermine us ✊ #1u
