Peter Strzok taking to Twitter after being fired by the FBI is pretty newsworthy. It’s only natural that CNN’s Chris Cillizza would want to get in on the action.
Unfortunately, it’s only natural that Chris would find a way to screw it up:

So I guess Strzok isn't sorry or…. https://t.co/us5E4cq4OI

And now I am told this is a fake Strzok account… https://t.co/9d7jj5XHMA

You needed to be told, Chris? Didn’t want to look into @_peterstrzok yourself? You could’ve saved yourself a little trouble — and a lot of embarrassment.
Surely this gets tiresome for you? pic.twitter.com/h3dEcWEizM

Evidently it doesn’t. What can we say? Some people are just gluttons for punishment.
You found a new way to be wrong!

Shouldn't you have verified the account before responding to it?

It's clearly a fake account.
The responsible thing would have been to check, as @BuzzFeedNews did (Strzok's lawyers confirmed over an hour ago that his real handle is @petestrzok) before sharing something so clearly implausible and out of character with your many followers.

The Twitter handle for the fake account is now “@notpeterstrzok,” and the bio very clearly states that it’s a parody account:
Got that, Chris?
