Last week, Yahoo News beclowned themselves trying to dismiss Virginia GOP gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie’s emphasis on MS-13 as racist and xenophobic. Today, Washington Post Fact Checker columnist Glenn Kessler is doing his part to make Gillespie look like he’s making an MS-13 mountain out of a molehill:
Update: Fairfax County police say 1,400 MS-13 gang members in Fairfax County, much lower than Gillespie claim https://t.co/MlhczI76ZH
— Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) October 24, 2017
How much lower?
For context, Gillespie claimed there were 2,000. https://t.co/TWMgGKtT7i
— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) October 24, 2017
Yes, 1,400 is less than 2,000. But 1,400 violent, murderous thugs is still a lot more than most people would be comfortable with.
My hunch is that a lot of normal people will say, "1,400 in one county sounds like a lot." https://t.co/qV8OWME30r
— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahDispatch) October 24, 2017
for context: a county with 1.13 million people https://t.co/xFfYNsZ1jc
— Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) October 24, 2017
Wait… in ONE county????
— Pete Kaliner (@PeteKaliner) October 24, 2017
A county of 1.13 million people. Fairfax is one of the most populous counties in the USA.
— Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) October 24, 2017
I'm not trying to start an argument. But FWIW, Wikipedia says there are 1,402 police officers in Fairfax county. So basically 1-for-1. https://t.co/URXnFLUccE
— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahDispatch) October 24, 2017
So few police officers because it's extraordinarily safe county for most of the well-heeled population.
— Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) October 24, 2017
Agreed, we should let gangs run amok to stir things up a bit
— Comfortably Smug (@ComfortablySmug) October 24, 2017
How “extraordinarily safe” is it to have 1,400 MS-13 members running around?
https://twitter.com/BlakeSeitz/status/922895159817310210
Oh. Even better.
Note that ICE says a total of 1,100 in whole DC region (6 million people). No one really has a handle on numbers. But in context, small. https://t.co/Gx6KZQRK3a
— Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) October 24, 2017
Small? Are Fairfax County residents supposed to be comforted by this?
Er…not sure this makes the political case against Gillespie.
This is one of those cases where the specific number is not as important. https://t.co/rRUnXJqlPU

And the point? Who wants one of them running around?

“Only” 1,400 gang members of one of the most violent gangs in the world…in ONE county. Yeah, not bad I guess.
— Hunter Biden’s crack dealer ?? (@ArmyofJ) October 24, 2017
Only 1,400 violent gang members. https://t.co/B1ChztEwmy

Ummmm, FOURTEEN HUNDRED violent gang members in ONE county is a lot…
— Habitual Linestepper (@FergusFSU) October 24, 2017
i'm really relieved to hear there are *only* 1,400 members of a violent gang living in my backyard. #vagov #vapol
— Ryan (@chasinghumility) October 24, 2017
So. The acceptable number of MS-13 members is….what? Do tell. Please.

Should be zero…. this is disturbing
— Paulie (@TunnelRat98) October 24, 2017
There are 1,400 that they know of. Which is 1,400 more than is tolerable.

I'm sure that the residents are breathing a sigh of relief knowing there are only 1,400 (known) organized violent criminals in the county
— Mark Schulze (@Redleg1_101) October 24, 2017
WOW! only 1,400 gang members and not 2,000 in one county. I feel MUCH safer now!
— Gay Conservative (@GayConservativ3) October 24, 2017
who says ONLY 1400 violent gang members like it's a good thing!?? WOW
— Lori (@LoriCerisano) October 24, 2017
If there are 1400 they know about you can bet there are twice as many they don't know about…yet
— carolyn tackett (@CarolsCloset) October 24, 2017
1400 violent gang members is still a threat that many Democrats seem unwilling to face.
