Leaking, and even illegal classified leaking, has been a big problem in Washington for years. Failing @nytimes (and others) must apologize!

This new Washington Post report on Trump would probably qualify as a legit “whoa if true” story:
Exclusive: Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian diplomats in their Oval Office meeting last week https://t.co/qHTk7wC068
— The Washington Post (@washingtonpost) May 15, 2017
Wow — BREAKING at WaPo: Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian foreign minister and ambassador https://t.co/7K1MEhQ0cD
— Philip Rucker (@PhilipRucker) May 15, 2017
"Trump “revealed more information to the Russian ambassador than we have shared with our own allies.” https://t.co/osGr2yemCJ
— Gideon Resnick (@GideonResnick) May 15, 2017
"After Trump’s meeting, senior White House officials took steps to contain the damage, placing calls to the CIA & National Security Agency." https://t.co/1T1UEDhPmL

Apparently Trump is OK with unmasking sources whe he's handing sensitive information over to Russia against their permission. Unbelievable. pic.twitter.com/KCE2vcnQg3

This certainly doesn’t sound good.

Presidents have the *authority* to do this, but sure doesn't sound like he had any valid justification for doing so. https://t.co/k49r5kKpMf

Not good. Will make liaison intel services even more nervous about sharing.https://t.co/2xfs4flR1N

Not only did Trump put our relationship w/ this source in danger, but any source nervous about being unmasked by an irresponsible president. pic.twitter.com/T04Qr03WvY

Also worth noting? This quote in the WaPo’s report from NatSec Adviser H.R. McMaster:
McMaster statement to WaPo appears to be a tacit confirmation of the story https://t.co/6hENDGZfZg pic.twitter.com/5WogELU4OX
— Zeke Miller (@ZekeJMiller) May 15, 2017
Except the part where McMaster denies the centerpiece of the story, that is. https://t.co/q6mI8yBoNa

Or maybe it’s still ambiguous after all:
https://twitter.com/TPCarney/status/864230190083342336
I see people saying this and it's wrong. All McMaster says is Trump did not disclose sources and methods. Not a denial of WaPo story. https://t.co/9pu7pUk2Sw
— Josh Barro (@jbarro) May 15, 2017
This is also how I read it. https://t.co/B7iGsGvADl
— Megan McArdle (@asymmetricinfo) May 15, 2017
Don’t see how McMaster’s denial about sources or methods is inconsistent with WaPo. WaPo says key revelation was a location.

Well, one thing’s for sure: There’s a lot to digest here. And it’s nothing if not confusing.
Why does every source in every explosive story have to remain anonymous? https://t.co/XYPJrCjpoZ
— jon gabriel (@exjon) May 15, 2017
Which is the big caution on this story, like so many others. https://t.co/ir116ly5Rq
— Dan McLaughlin (@baseballcrank) May 15, 2017
TFW you can't trust the press or the president.

What a cluster.
Maybe Trump taped his Oval Office conversation with the Russians, and we all can see a transcript and decide for ourselves? #GallowsHumor
