President Emergency: Ari Fleischer puts unemployment benefit extension into perspective

No kidding.

Earlier today, before Senate Democrats — and six Republicans — voted to invoke cloture on the bill to extend long-term unemployment insurance, former Bush White House press secretary Ari Fleischer made an interesting observation:

The name of unempl. program is Emergency Unemployment Extension. If it's extended now, every year of O presidency 2date will b an emergency.

It’s certainly felt that way to us.

Now, it’s worth noting that the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program was launched in 2008 during the Bush administration. But two wrongs don’t make a right. With the Senate voting to move the current bill forward, the massive economic hole we’re in will only get deeper.

And that’s nothing to crow about.

When your key win in your 5th yr as President is the extension of unemployment benefits, you might want to reconsider your legacy.
