They got it wrong. Big time.
Earlier this year, “hate incidents” — including racist, anti-gay graffiti and a blanket-clad student — at Oberlin College prompted canceled classes and soul-searching. Oberlin alumna Lena Dunham was beside herself with grief. What had become of the college’s “beautiful, inclusive and downright revolutionary” character?
Twitchy CEO Michelle Malkin, also an Oberlin grad, immediately called B.S. As she noted at the time, Oberlin has a shameful history of hate crime hoaxes, and this case smelled just as rotten. Law professor and blogger William Jacobson wasn’t buying it, either, and his suspicions were only magnified by the fact that Oberlin refused to offer any insight into the perpetrators’ motivations.
As it turns out, Malkin and Jacobson were right. They were right about everything. In a damning report published this morning, Daily Caller News Foundation contributor Chuck Ross blew the lid off the college’s hate crime narrative. The incidents in question weren’t pulled off by right-wing, racist homophobes, as liberals were so quick to assert, but rather by a pair of student trolls:

Yep. Ross reports that Dylan Bleier, one of the students, is an avowed Obama supporter who has worked with OFA and considers himself an “atheist/pacifist/environmentalist/libertarian socialist/consequentialist.” Matt Alden, his partner in crime, has a reputation as a prankster. And indeed, when questioned by campus officials, the two jackasses admitted that they did it all just for kicks.
