All right, guys. I suppose I should let you in on a little secret: I’m not the biggest fan of Donald Trump.
OK, so that’s not actually a secret. At least it shouldn’t be to anyone who’s paid any attention to my posts over the past several years. I can’t stand the guy. Now, to be clear, I think I’ve done a pretty good job of separating my personal loathing of the man from my coverage of him. Of course I will gladly call him out when he says or does something childish or awful, but I’ve also been willing to give him credit where it’s been due or defend him from unfair attacks from people who allow their judgment to be clouded by their dislike for him.
All that said, it should be pretty much universally agreed upon that lately, he’s been acting like an absolute jackass — and letting his inner Democrat shine through. For a guy who’s supposedly running for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, he sure spends a whole lot of time talking about Ron DeSantis — who, it’s important to note, has not announced his own candidacy — and very little making the case for voters to cast their lots with Donald Trump again. If Trump’s such a fantastic, slam-dunk candidate, why is he using his platform strictly to obsess over Ron DeSantis?
This is nothing short of incredibly cringe and embarrassing behavior from the former president:
Former President Trump is sounding very Democratic on Truth Social this morning. Most of this Ron DeSantis bashing could have come out of the Democratic attack machine at any time in last 50 years. But points for refining 'Ron DeSanctimonious' into 'Ron DeSanctus.' pic.twitter.com/uuZckBmj96

Points? What points? I award Donald Trump no points, and may God have mercy on his soul. What even is that word salad?
I don't get DeSanctus, as sanctus is Latin for holy.

He's not a bright guy.

He’s definitely got more than a few screws loose, that’s for damn sure.
I have no idea what the Republican base responds to these days, but has the Paul Ryan "granny" attack ad gone from beyond the pale to best practice over the last decade? https://t.co/CFWxdoaAWD

I mean, so much of the right's supposed ideological transformation is attributable to their envy of what they imagine Democrats can do/get away with, so probably.
— Noah Rothman (@NoahCRothman) February 28, 2023
The Right shouldn’t be taking cues on ideological transformation from a decades-long liberal Democrat who decided to embrace a leftist caricature of a Republican in order to run for president.
Well, he has always been a pretty leftist guy who has a history of supporting Democrats. https://t.co/JxSppof0jN

He's a man of the center-left, of course his attacks on primary opponents will come from the left https://t.co/en254M0JnQ

Trump should run as a Democrat since he uses their same lies about Social Security and Medicare. https://t.co/vpjVF8lnNY

Trump’s always been a Democrat. He’s just not trying so hard to hide it these days. That can happen when you get too desperate to care.
Donald Trump calling @RonDeSantisFL a “globalist” is just laughable when RDS has been the leading voice against the WEF and ESG for years.
Trump is clearly off his rocker. Just look at the syntax of his “truths”. pic.twitter.com/5EzvKflQzy

You mean he’s not your favorite president?
this tells me trump is scared shitless of DeSantis https://t.co/wRi7crfObM

That’s exactly what Trump is. And if DeSantis continues to play his own cards right, it won’t be long before Trump completely self-destructs and clears the path for someone who isn’t completely insane.
