Joyce Carol Oates is a celebrated novelist.
And apparently writing fiction for a living has made her believe things that aren’t actually true.
Like, for example, that Antifa is against fascism:
"anti-fa" means "anti-fascist." anyone can be "anti-fascist." there is no "antifa" movement unless there is "fascism" to oppose.
remove fascism, "antifa" will disappear.— Joyce Carol Oates (@JoyceCarolOates) September 10, 2020
Wow. We never thought of it like that, Joyce!

It’s just so brilliant, you know?
Thank you! You did a very concise explanation of a word many do not understand! Many think “antifa”= evil.

Exactly… Keep repeating this to everyone

Because if you keep repeating it, eventually it’ll make sense?

This ignorance is one reason I have stripped your works from all my syllabi.

Takes like Oates’ don’t get any smarter no matter how many times we hear them.
Use this logic with "pro-life".

Call yourselves what you want, but I know authoritarians when I see them.
Antifa and the far right are a lot more similar than either would ever admit.

Properly define “fascism” and “antifa” will disappear.

We should just respond to every Joyce Carol Oates tweet with “Oh, honey!”
My favorite Joyce Carol Oates Twitter moment is when she thought a photo of Spielberg from the set of Jurassic Park was a real photo of trophy hunting. pic.twitter.com/TcK9Y85sGn

Never gets old.
