So let’s cut straight to it.
Gavin Newsom’s post - the one telling every kid with a learning disability not to let anyone bully them, and framing dyslexia not as a weakness but as their strength - lands differently when you step back and look at the context.
On one hand, encouraging kids who struggle with reading, processing, or whatever LD they may have is a good thing. No one should feel defined or diminished by a diagnosis. Overcoming challenges builds character (I know, that sounds super cliché, but it's true), and plenty of successful people talk about how they adapted and turned hurdles into motivation. That message, taken alone, is a good one.
But when some cheap, dirty, snakey, slimy politician uses children with learning disabilities to shield himself from criticism ... that's something else entirely.
And that is exactly what Newsom is doing here:
To every kid with a learning disability: don’t let anyone — not even the President of the United States — bully you.

Dyslexia isn’t a weakness.
It’s your strength.
First and foremost, dyslexia is just a diagnosis; it's not a strength or a weakness, and many people (including children) do not like being identified with a diagnosis. If Newsom actually understands that community, he would know better.
But he doesn't, clearly.
So his smoochy, kissy-uppy post is really a huge insult... he's just too dumb or too disconnected from the people he's trying to use for political gain to know any better.
