Ohio U.S. Senate race heats up; Left distorts GOP candidate's words

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel is the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in Ohio. His opponent is incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat.

In a head-to-head meeting at The Columbus Dispatch, Mandel had some harsh words about Sen. Brown:

“I don’t toss around the word un-American very often — it’s a dangerous word to use. But stripping … Delphi employees of their pensions with that vote — that is un-American.”

That is the full quote provided by The Dispatch. We would like to see what was said where the ellipsis was inserted.

In any case, it seems clear that Mandel didn’t actually say that Brown’s vote for the auto bailout was un-American (only stripping the Delphi pensions). Nevertheless, his remarks were distorted and a completely predictable Twitterstorm ensued:

It’s always so charming to see how quickly liberals cry “foul” on name calling and immediately respond with … name calling.

Sherrod Brown’s Press Secretary and his allies now want to know if Mandel thinks VP candidate Paul Ryan and other Republicans are also un-American:

The drones obediently retweeted.

Let’s see if we can translate this into a reality check.
