Did Giants ace toss most perfect perfect game ever?

San Francisco Giants ace Matt Cain tossed the 22nd perfect game in the history of Major League Baseball, but this might just have been the greatest one ever.

Cain struck out 14 batters to tie Sandy Koufax, when he achieved perfection in 1965. In addition, Cain’s Game Score was 101, which also ties Koufax for the highest ever in a perfect game.

The next highest was Randy Johnson’s perfect game in 2004 when he reached 100, while the highest ever was Kerry Wood’s 20-strikeout game in 1998 when he achieved 105.

Game Score is a statistic that rates pitchers’ starts (usually from 0 to 100) based on innings pitched, runs, hits, strikeouts and walks. The average Game Score is between 49 and 50.

Most tweets were congratulatory.
