Just in:
NRA breaks silence: "we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown."
— Jared Halpern (@JaredHalpern) December 18, 2012
NRA statement cont. "The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again."
— Jared Halpern (@JaredHalpern) December 18, 2012
In addition, NRA will hold a major news conference on Friday in the DC area.
— Jared Halpern (@JaredHalpern) December 18, 2012
Full statement:
The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.
Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.
The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.
They’re damned if they do speak up and damned if they don’t.
so the NRA fuckwads finally issued a statement. which says nothing. ASSWIPES #NOWAYNRA

Not really satisfied w/ the @NRA's statement. Call a spade a spade. Leaving victims time to mourn =/= shirking cowardice. #NRA #Newtown

I don't believe anyone at the NRA is "shocked" about what happened in CT. And it's a stretch to believe they're "heartbroken". @BashirLive

NRA waits to comment until the last weekday before a holiday weekend, hoping America is otherwise occupied. Fucking cowards.
— Steve M. (@nomoremister) December 18, 2012
Um, no #nra, you don't get to decide what is a decent time for mourning and investigation. Just shut the f up. You've done more than enough.
— Linda Salter (@sagedoc) December 18, 2012
Huh. I guess the NRA has heard about pre-holiday news (or, totally inadequate policy) dumps. Clever, these child-killers.
— emptywheel (@emptywheel) December 18, 2012
The NRA can go fuck itself, no matter what they'll say.
— Frank (@fvdlfvdl) December 18, 2012
The NRA can kiss my entire brown ass and go to hell.
— Nola Darling (@FredieGilbert) December 18, 2012
The #NRA is such bullshit and a heartless political machine. They're shocked at the shootings right when they're part the reason it happened
— Carlos Ordaz (@Carlos_FEARnot) December 18, 2012
Here’s a good question:
Why are we letting the media and the politicians get away with demonizing the NRA. They have ZERO to do with what happened in CT.
— Mere Dake-O'Connor (@meredithdake) December 18, 2012
The NRA has nothing to apologize for. Standing up for universal rights doesn't make you responsible for one asshole abusing a right.
