Um, not sure why the people who make the buying decisions didn't see this could be a problem from a mile away, but who knows? In today's culture where people walk on eggshells to not offend, this was not going to go well.

True. It's hard for the costume to not be 'black face' when the model is a black person. The whole thing is just bad.
What Target “got wrong” was using a black kid as the model. There would have been zero outrage if it was a white kid wearing that costume.

To be fair, some people don't see the issue with the costume and think the uproar is because a black model was used in the costume.

Personally, I don't think Target meant to offend anyone. Clearly, that would be very bad business. I do think the costume is overall just ugly and secondly, not a good look.
