Democrats banked on the shutdown and SNAP cuts sparking nationwide fury at Republicans—envisioning voters blaming the GOP for 'starving children' and dooming them politically. The exact opposite happened. Americans are now poring over SNAP's rolls, discovering who's really cashing in—and they're furious at the waste, not the reformers.
Correct. Something that radicalized me on this recently was the woman cutting my hair, and to whom (as with other service workers) I always give a generous tip, letting slide that things are tough at the moment because with government closed she may not get SNAP payments. 1/ https://t.co/9ThOGpZSly

I have sat through appointments of this woman telling me about taking her kids to Disney World and how she went out drinking with friends on weekends. She’s wearing an Apple Watch. She has a full-time job. She goes out partying. She takes the family to expensive amusement parks.…

I’ve never opposed and do not oppose helping out people who TRULY need it. People who literally cannot eat at the moment without my help.

But that’s not the reality for 1 in 8 Americans. That’s not the reality for these people who just choose to spend their limited income on…
Food stamps are intended to be for “if I don’t get help I’ll starve and my kids will starve”
— Sunny (@sunnyright) November 9, 2025
They’re not intended to pay for your food because you paying for your food yourself would mean losing out on other comforts and fun activities because you don’t have enough money to do…
Oh, and then there was 'eyebrow' gate.
CNN's Ashley Allison says SNAP is having a "massive impact" after she went to her eyebrow technician who told her they had to fire people because clients don't have money to do their brows.

The public is finally seeing the waste, fraud, and abuse that burns billions every year while pretending to serve those in need. pic.twitter.com/bDRgdBfvpI
While there are people that have a legitiate need for SNAP, the system is heavily exploited. I've personally seen a person at a convience store use a SNAP card to buy soda and candy and then pull out a wad of hundred dollar bills and use them to buy scratch-off lottery tickets.

If Democrats truly wanted to ensure these entitlements remained intact, this was the absolute worst strategy. All they accomplished was spotlighting the recipients—and while many are genuinely in need, far more are gaming the system, freeing up their grocery money for luxuries. Americans resent bankrolling others' extravagant lifestyles with their hard-earned tax dollars when they themselves struggle to afford basics.
