Reporter who started Newtown 'heckling' lie: Yes, 'heckle' was the right word; Also, surf's up!

The Connecticut Post reporter who broke the phony story, “Father of Newtown victim heckled at hearing,” resurfaced on Twitter this morning for the first time since Twitchy exposed his erroneous report.

Did Ken Dixon apologize for falsely reporting that Neil Heslin was “heckled” at a Connecticut legislative hearing? Did he issue a correction?

Nah. He retweeted one story about a media request to unseal search warrants and another about surfing. Really.

Gnarly distraction, dude. But there’s still the pesky matter of that bogus reporting that ushered in a wave of left-wing propagandizing.

Slate and The Week admitted that Heslin wasn’t heckled during his testimony. After being called out by Twitchy’s Michelle Malkin, Anderson Cooper acknowledged that Heslin “asked for response and audiences members gave it.” Others have reported the truth about the hearing:

But Dixon is sticking by his lie and cherry-picking dictionary definitions in a pitiful attempt to wiggle out of this.

Objections designed to embarrass? Does Dixon really think that definition gets him off the hook?

As Twitchy first reported, Heslin asked the audience “if there’s anybody in this room that can give me one reason or challenge this question … why anybody in this room needs to have one of these assault-style weapons or military weapons or high-capacity clips.”

After pausing to wait for a response, Heslin concluded, “Not one person can answer that question.” That’s when Second Amendment supporters responded, “Second Amendment shall not be infringed.” By what measure were those responses “objections designed to embarrass”?

Erik Wemple at The Washington Post provides a rundown of more than half a dozen times a roomful of unruly hecklers might have interrupted Heslin to shout down his calls for gun control. But they didn’t. “It’s only after he twice calls on the audience to rebut his opinions about assault rifles that he draws some audience participation.”

Jim Treacher gives us “real journalist” Ken Dixon in a nutshell.
