Irish light flyweight Paddy Barnes beat Cameroon’s Thomas Essomba to advance to the quarter-finals today and immediately tweeted his win from inside the Olympic ring.
Barnes was under the impression that this was a historic first.

Leave it to a Twitter follower to rain on his parade.
@paddyb_ireland Think Paulie Mallignaggi tweeted during his last fight. You're the first olympian though.Congrats on the win 🙂

Indeed, WBA Welterweight Champion Paulie Malignaggi tweeted from the ring back in April. But Barnes still has another shot at an impressive first.
Paddy Barnes could become the first Irish athlete since Pat O'Callaghan in 1932 to win a medal at two Olymplic games. @paddyb_ireland

And this might not be a first, but it definitely makes Barnes memorable.
