There should be oversight of AI. The multiplication of ways it poses threats to society cannot be enumerated. It ties the brain in knots just attempting to think about the depth of how authentically clad false representation can harm us. Thus, it should receive oversight that identifies AI-related issues, exposes them for what they are, and does not tolerate such fraud.
Many Democrats for many years have championed civil liberties, the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, and effects against violations of that security and privacy; the freedoms of speech and of the press; and more. In the past quarter of a century, those rights have come under assault by a movement that goes under the banner of national security. We have no national security without personal security. We have no personal security if the enumerated and non-enumerated rights retained by the people are denied or diminished. Freedom of can also be freedom from, in certain cases. The freedom of speech can also be freedom from the abridging of the freedom of speech. So it is or can be with AI. If a stream of a video or broadcast, for an example, is artificially altered in a manner that misrepresents what it is, that is a violation of both the sending party and the receiving party. It can have devastating consequences that go well beyond the immediately offended ones. So it makes it a societal issue. Still, though, guaranteeing the rights of one person should be enough to cause oversight that ensures that they are not denied.
