The AP was shredded for its tweet Saturday about the death of George H.W. Bush, which referred to the former president as “a patrician New Englander whose presidency soared with the coalition victory over Iraq in Kuwait, but then plummeted in the throes of a weak economy that led voters to turn him out of office after a single term.”
So well over a day later, the account tweets this.
We’ve deleted a tweet and revised a story on the death of President George H.W. Bush because the tweet and the opening of the story referenced his 1992 electoral defeat and omitted his WWII service.

The text of the “revision” tweet combined with the fact that the original tweet remained on the account for over 24 hours says so much about the AP.
This is embarrassing. https://t.co/XwRsbd8A3n

It took 2 days for someone at the @AP to realize their story on Bush was biased garbage. https://t.co/goviJ1pYbU

A former president and someone who gave much of his life to serving the country has passed.
More importantly, a family member and friend has been lost.

For the AP, it is an opportunity to bring up the elements that led to his presidential demise, only to delete and “revise” the tweet a day later.
Journalists are proud professionals and we should respect them and obey them https://t.co/KcScx6ACRz

The man was 94 years old & a former President. Like most major media outlets, you would have been planning his obit for years. You chose to open the story that way and chose to post the tweet with just that info. His passing, while sad, was no surprise, & this was your choice. https://t.co/hfjeInPmCP

Shameful.
