Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced that residents must be fully vaccinated to “enter bars, restaurants, fitness centers, and entertainment/recreational venues where food/drink are served” starting January 3:

She said this is needed because the city is expecting a “post-holiday surge in cases”:
Hospitalizations in the city are at their highest since our surge last winter. Deaths are at a higher rate than we have seen in months.
On top of all this, we can expect a post-holiday surge in cases.
