Here we go again…
Blue-check journos and other libs are pretty psyched today after this tweet from President Donald Trump on the now infamous Trump Tower meeting with his son, Donald Jr., in 2016:
Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower. This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics – and it went nowhere. I did not know about it!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 5, 2018
You see, they think Trump confessed to meeting Russian agents, or something. From The Atlantic’s David Frum:
YOUR HEADLINE
TRUMP CONFESSES HIS SON MET WITH RUSSIAN AGENTS "TO GET INFORMATION" AGAINST CLINTON https://t.co/cNCfUDi3ha
— David Frum (@davidfrum) August 5, 2018
CNN’s Chris Cillizza:
So.
1. Trump Jr. in a statement says that the meeting was about adoptions
2. We learn that the meeting was actually about dirt on Clinton
3. We learn Trump dictated Trump Jr. statement
4. Trump says that the meeting was "to get information on an opponent."
So, here we are! https://t.co/pwxyyyeQbi

You see, Trump is “finally” telling the truth, according to The Daily Beast’s Justin MIller:
Trump finally tells the truth ("a meeting to get information on an opponent") after lying about the meeting in his Air Force One statement. It's Trump vs. Trump if he goes into a Mueller interview https://t.co/zuh7PlSOUd
— Justin Miller (@justinjm1) August 5, 2018
And Dems are jumping on it, too. Here’s Dem Rep. Ted Lieu from California:
Conspiring with a foreign power to get dirt on an opponent in US elections is a violation of campaign finance laws.
This tweet by @realDonaldTrump also shows he lied when he drafted the statement about the meeting. It wasn't about Russian adoptions.#SundayMorning Thoughts https://t.co/Dp5RYbxYDT

And Obama adviser Ben Rhodes:
I'm old enough to remember when this meeting with Kremlin agents was about adoption. https://t.co/qKz8NcgwkB
— Ben Rhodes (@brhodes) August 5, 2018
But not so fast…
Axios’ Jonathan Swan is throwing ice cold water over all of this and reminding everyone this is nothing new:

And it’s not going well for libs challenging Swan on this:
