Editor’s note: See update below where Twitter explains its action against McGowan.
Who’s in charge at Twitter because suspending Rose McGowan’s account and accusing her of violating Twitter Rules seems like a bad move.
She posted a screenshot of her message from Twitter to Instagram:
This is what happens when you let robots take over?
It looks as though @rosemcgowan’s account was suspended through @Twitter’s algorithmic anti-abuse tool. That doesn’t make it any better!

Her account is back up this morning and we’re not sure which tweets were deleted, if any, but if our memory is correct there was a second tweet up yesterday going after Harvey Weinstein’s brother, Bob. This one is still up, however:
Bob Weinstein is a POS. They allllll knew. pic.twitter.com/zWJZf52ywq

Blue checks on Twitter were shocked by Twitter move, to say the least:
Wow @twitter you've got Donald Trump trying to inhibit freedom of the press but you suspend @rosemcgowan because she called out Ben Affleck?
— Hanna Ines Flint (@HannaFlint) October 12, 2017
Of all the voices to silence on twitter, @rosemcgowan is a strange choice. https://t.co/lK89CQbe5z

@TwitterSupport from the NYT – which @rosemcgowan tweets had violated Twitter rules?

THIS IS HOW @TWITTER TREATS WOMEN WHO COME FORWARD ABOUT SEXUAL ABUSE.https://t.co/e144upZEZS

Twitter is refusing to comment on why:
So I asked @twitter why @rosemcgowan was "suspended" – "We don't comment on individual accounts for privacy and security reasons."

Update. It looks like she was suspended for the tweet we noticed was deleted:
We have been in touch with Ms. McGowan's team. We want to explain that her account was temporarily locked because one of her Tweets included a private phone number, which violates our Terms of Service. 1/3

The Tweet was removed and her account has been unlocked. We will be clearer about these policies and decisions in the future. 2/3

Twitter is proud to empower and support the voices on our platform, especially those that speak truth to power. We stand with the brave women and men who use Twitter to share their stories, and will work hard every day to improve our processes to protect those voices. 3/3
