The liberal website Truthout has a new piece out criticizing the use of solitary confinement for prisoners housed in NYC’s notorious Rikers Island Correctional Facility, but there’s one major problem with their reporting. The Shutterstock image they’ve included in the article is most definitely not Rikers Island. Have they ever even seen the prison they’re writing about?
What they’ve confused with Rikers is actually 2400 Johnson Ave. in the Bronx and the giant “C” is for Columbia University, which has athletic facilities on the opposite side of the Harlem River.
Oops.
The Southern Policy Law Center tweeted out the wrong picture as well:
Solitary Not Yet Over at Rikers, but Advocates Keep Fighting http://t.co/DXM5e3rWXS pic.twitter.com/qsn5qwG8aI

Double oops.
But, hey — we’re sure these experts know what they’re talking about even though they don’t know what the facility looks like…
