The Federalist’s Bethany Mandel, who has been spending the weekend raising money to help rescue North Korean refugees, is being asked to apologize for this tweet by Washington Post columnist Gene Weingarten because she called North Korea the “most brutal regime in human history”:
The media shall continue on its years-long obsession about the dangers of "fake news" after having spent the weekend running propaganda for the most brutal regime in human history. And then they'll claim it's Trump, not their own actions, to blame for continued spiral of trust.

It's not the most brutal regime in human history, Bethany. You need to apologize.

As you might imagine, “wut”?
I'm sorry wut
— Bethany S. Mandel (@bethanyshondark) February 11, 2018
Weingarten then called her “clueless”:
Hey, if you're genuinely clueless, fine.
— Gene Weingarten (@geneweingarten) February 11, 2018
Weingarten’s insult then led to a back-and-forth on mansplaining:
There you go with the mansplaining again. I'm not apologizing for calling a spade a spade on a decades-long genocidal regime. What a

There ain't no mansplaining going on here. I would call the Nazis, for example, a more brutal regime. Pol Pot's, too. Mao's wasn't real great, either. Genghis Khan left minarets of human skulls. Stop being an a-hole.

Newsflash — Bethany is correct (or, at the very least, she has a very defensible position based on the length of the North Korean regime):
I'm an a-hole for calling the North Korean regime, which has lasted far longer with larger gulags than all of your mentioned atrocities, the most brutal in human history. Got it. https://t.co/wEeMjdu6di
— Bethany S. Mandel (@bethanyshondark) February 11, 2018
This is actually a thing happening in my mentions column right now. I need to apologize for calling the North Korean regime the most brutal in history.
— Bethany S. Mandel (@bethanyshondark) February 11, 2018
You can disagree with the rank of brutality of regimes in human history. But I "need to apologize" for stating it's North Korea — Jesus Christ I live in an alternate reality.
