What the Hell Is Happening in Utah? Students Stage Walkout to Protest Being Bitten by 'Furries'

Back in 2021, there were a number of reports about schools that put litter boxes in their bathrooms, the better to cater to and 'affirm' students who identified as cats. The left unleashed their 'fact checkers' on this rumor, happily debunking it and claiming the whole notion was just another 'right-wing extremist conspiracy.'

Well, you know what they say about most conspiracy theories ... just give them some time and they'll be true.

Yesterday, a large number of students in the Nebo School District in Utah staged a walkout to protest their school making them accommodate 'furries,' (a.k.a. students who identify as animals).

And yes, there ARE litter boxes in the bathrooms, according to the students.

The tweet ends, '... they get in trouble.'

What in the actual hell, Utah?

This tweet is from Libs of TikTok, but it originated with a reporter in Utah named Adam Batholomew, who runs the site Utah Main Street Media. He did the bulk of the reporting on this, so I wanted to give him credit. His tweets, although they didn't get a lot of engagement, included him interviewing students and adults for a full hour.

If you don't have time to listen to the full video, let's look at some highlights (or lowlights) of what students said the furries are allowed to do to them ... with no punishment or consequences.

  • Biting, scratching, and growling at other students
  • Spraying students in the eyes with Febreze
  • Wearing animal costumes and sitting on all fours in class
  • Wearing animal tails that are actually butt plugs
  • Chasing students around the halls, barking at them
  • Litter boxes in the bathrooms
  • Other students are not allowed to wear any costumes, including Halloween costumes, in school
  • Other students cannot complain or they get reprimanded, including suspensions

I want to pause for a moment here to note a few things. Most of the students Bartholomew talked to are middle-school-age or younger. Many of them may be exaggerating or even just making up some of the details. Lots of them seemed to be laughing about the issue, so it's possible they're playing this up for attention. Kids do that sort of thing (so do many adults, as social media shows us every day). The school district's PIO Seth Sorenson has denied all of these allegations, calling it all a misunderstanding based on a memo the school sent out asking students to be respectful of others no matter how they dress.

However, Bartholomew DID also speak to some adults and parents during his interviews, who confirmed at least some of what the students said. One student also started a petition demanding that the school strictly enforce its dress code --- for all students -- and claimed that the school administration tried to stop the petition. (Videos posted on the petition also show some students playing the issue for laughs.) Finally, Bartholomew also tweeted a statement from Utah Parents United, which supported the student's allegations.

So, what do we make of all of this?

Unfortunately for the school district administration, they enter the situation with zero credibility. That's what school boards and school districts have created for themselves. It is also a problem for them that the situation is totally believable in 2024. Even if some details from the kids were exaggerated, it's very clear that something strange is going on in the Nebo School District. A simple dismissive statement from the PIO isn't going to cut it.

Twitter, unsurprisingly landed solidly on the side of the students.

It's not happening until it is proven that it is. And then it's a GOOD thing that it's happening.

These are all some pretty prominent figures. If this was a hoax, some very smart people got fooled, including me.

If it is not a hoax, many administrators need to be fired. Immediately.

Either way, it demands a full investigation, not a casual dismissal from the school district.

And there is one more question about this viral story that we should ask ourselves, assuming some or all of it is true:

Utah is a fairly 'soft' red state in terms of adherence to conservative principles (the current governor Spencer Cox even announced his 'preferred pronouns'), but it is solidly red and has been for my lifetime.

But, as Jesse Kelly explained on Twitter a couple of days ago, that simply does not matter to devoted woke leftists. They will infiltrate ANY choke point they can, including school boards, libraries, and parks departments, even in red states. And they get away with it because conservatives are passive and let it happen.

The answer, as Kelly explained, is that conservatives need to stop just opining on Twitter and get involved in their communities.

No matter how this particular story pans out, it should be a clarion call to all parents in Utah to get off the bench and start to take control of the communities in which they live.
