By now everybody's familiar with the Dem/lib media pattern when it comes to the evolution of stories that are damaging to the Left:
--It's not happening, and claims otherwise are misinformation from the Right.
--OK, it IS happening but it's rare and to a small degree.
--OK, it's happening a lot but but here's why (pick one) A) It's actually a good thing, or B) Trump's fault.

When it comes to the Democrats and the social services fraud in Minnesota, we've arrived at the second step.
It started with Frey and other Dems (including Tim Walz) implying there wasn't any fraud and the investigations are just because of the Trump administration's -- you guessed it -- racism and white supremacy:

Those were nice attempted distractions, but they're not working.
