The Schumer shutdown continues, as does the effort on the part of Democrats to place the blame on Trump and the Republicans.
Democrats just seem to hope that nobody's seen all the videos and roll calls of their party's senators voting "no" on a CR that would continue to fund the government, pay federal employees and continue SNAP:
In case I’ve not made myself clear—no family in America should go hungry. Period. Especially when we’ve already provided the funds.

Trump’s decision to withhold SNAP is unconscionable and immoral. The GOP needs to come back to DC and reopen the government. And the Admin needs to… pic.twitter.com/A0FSUjntr2
You voted against funding the government and SNAP. New Mexico has the highest percentage of SNAP recipients, and your vote ensured they won't get their November benefits. pic.twitter.com/QeJ5RuGuyh

In a rare fit of honesty, Dem Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse basically admitted that his party doesn't want to give up their "leverage," including SNAP recipients that could soon lose those benefits:

Democrats are trying to not only accuse Republicans of attempting to starve people over a stalled CR that the Democrats keep voting against, but Minnesota Gov. Tampon Tim Walz is arguing that SNAP is a big boon to the economy:
Every $1 invested in SNAP generates $1.80 in economic activity.
— Governor Tim Walz (@GovTimWalz) October 28, 2025
It’s not about the money, Trump just wants Americans to go hungry.
By that logic, if everybody quit their job and went on welfare, the U.S. would soon be in an unprecedented economy utopia! Or Walz is lying or a moron ("all of the above" is also a possibility).

Wow, a free money machine! In that case, why shouldn't we spend $4 trillion on welfare and get $7.2 trillion in return?

More people on the public dole and fewer working is better for the economy than full employment, or something.

Progressive "logic" in a nutshell.
How did Minnesota end up ballooning its debt under this guy?

With math like this. https://t.co/yEtUImLhKz
It's a total mystery!
“Every $1 invested in SNAP generates $1.80 in economic activity.”

Wow… imagine how big the economy would be if we invested $10 TRILLION in SNAP!
This man was almost Vice President. https://t.co/nlUzJ3E6Xl
Just imagine what would be happening right now if Harris and Walz had won the election last year. That "Tampon Tim math" would be in play for everything.
