Today jury selection began in Hunter Biden's trial where the president's son is facing federal gun charges.
This morning, the people who have forever lectured the rest of us about the need to enact and enforce "common sense gun laws" are showing up to support Hunter's effort to get off the hook for breaking a federal gun law:

The White House released a statement attributed to Joe Biden. This contains a huge lie as well as a "nudge nudge" to the judge and jury:

Here's the full statement in case you can't see it all above:
“I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. Hunter’s resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he has brought to his recovery are inspiring to us. A lot of families have loved ones who have overcome addiction and know what we mean. As the President, I don’t and won’t comment on pending federal cases, but as a Dad, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength. Our family has been through a lot together, and Jill and I are going to continue to be there for Hunter and our family with our love and support.”
First of all, Biden's statement should have been only six words -- the same ones he reserved for Trump:

The "shame if something were to happen to it"-style opening of Biden's statement wasn't unexpected:
This statement from Joe Biden is as subtle as a heart attack as Hunter’s trial begins: “I am the President.” https://t.co/W4KMz2hjM8

He continues to blame everything on addiction. Zero accountability and a wink and nod at the judge and jury. https://t.co/fuZKNMsmz9

"I don't comment on pending federal cases."
Really?
As Joe might say, "come on, man!"
Also isn't today's statement a comment on a pending federal case?
Biden's clearly trying to give his son an assist with the defense strategy, which is basically this:

The argument from Hunter's legal team, with a boost from Joe, is "if you were high when you broke the law, it didn't happen."
I'm now waiting for the media to turn this into yet another "this is about a father's love for his son" story. You know it's coming.
