KJP won't say why Biden hasn't sanctioned Russian billionaires who were Hunter's business associates

Just to set things up here, a few days ago the New York Post was among media outlets reporting about a pair of Russian billionaires who have managed to escape being among those hit by U.S. sanctions:

Two Russian billionaires who have managed to dodge US sanctions over Moscow’s year-old invasion of Ukraine went property shopping with Hunter Biden, dined with then-Vice President Joe Biden, and discussed “favors” they might swap, sources tell The Post.

New details of Joe and Hunter Biden’s association with Yelena Baturina and Vladimir Yevtushenkov flesh out tantalizing clues from the first son’s abandoned laptop. The sources spoke with The Post this week after the duo was yet again spared a fresh batch of sanctions announced by the Treasury Department Friday.

“I think it’s very fishy,” said one source who had firsthand knowledge of the business relationship between Hunter Biden and Yevtushenkov — who is sanctioned by the UK and Australia but not by the US.

You might not be surprised that Karine Jean-Pierre has tried to sidestep another landmine by pretending this doesn’t really have anything to do with the president. Jean-Pierre said this at today’s White House briefing:

The “trick” Jean-Pierre uses to get out of that is incredibly obvious: She keeps saying it’s an issue separate from President Biden and it most definitely involves him.

Not all answers are readily available in the Big Book of Talking Points.

Yeah, that pretty much sums things up nicely.

The Biden White House sanctioned over 200 “people and entities” tied to Russia, but not a couple of Hunter’s former (or, who knows, possibly still current) business associates:

Meanwhile, the White House said that new sanctions hitting over 200 people and entities will “further degrade Russia’s economy and diminish its ability to wage war against Ukraine.” The Biden administration will also further restrict exports to Russia and raise tariffs on some Russian products imported to the U.S.

“Now, not only does Ukraine stand, but the global coalition in support of Ukraine is stronger than ever, with the G7 as its anchor,” Biden said on Twitter following Friday’s virtual meeting with Zelenskyy.
