CNN consults 'The Experts™' to let us know if it's safe to attend a New Year's Eve party

Many media outlets have some version of a “How to Ruin the Holidays” department that let’s people know what to say to their Trump-supporting uncle or how to convince relatives that their Christmas dinner contributed to climate change. However, the Covid-era has brought with it a new version of media nanny, and that’s if it’s “safe” to host or attend a holiday gathering. CNN is all over it with New Year’s Eve just around the corner:

Do you ask yourselves all these questions before going to a party? CNN seems to think so:

What should you consider in deciding whether to attend New Year’s Eve parties? How can you gauge the risk of specific events? Are there individuals who may want to take more precautions, and which mitigation measures can reduce risk if they go? If you find out later that an attendee was ill, when should you test afterward to make sure you are in the clear? And what happens if you develop symptoms after an event?

To guide you through these questions, I spoke with CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen, an emergency physician, public health expert and professor of health policy and management at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health.

Some people obviously still desperately want it to be 2020.

Wen has certainly done her share of pivoting during the pandemic.

Has there been a more discredited group of people in the last couple years than “The Experts™”?

Solid advice.
