Journalist Michelle Kosinski, who was until 2019 a correspondent with CNN (and NBC News before that), had a tweet today that is — well, let’s just say it’s getting plenty of attention:
As an American journalist, you never expect:
1. Your own govt to lie to you, repeatedly
2. Your own govt to hide information the public has a right to know
3. Your own govt to spy on your communicationsTrump's unAmerican regime did all of these.
No one should accept this.— Michelle Kosinski (@MichLKosinski) May 8, 2021
Now there’s a take.
LOL at the ratio this is getting. https://t.co/lFrlklTbrv

Is this satire? https://t.co/LlL3D6l5cR

“journalist” https://t.co/tA2CAuBskM

Do not all journalists pay attention to the news, from the present day going back many, many years?
If you're a journalist who doesn't expect the government to lie, then you're not a journalist. You're a clown. https://t.co/b6nmPXgB27

If you, a journalist, do not expect the US (or any other) government to lie, you should find a new profession. https://t.co/aX5YlRaor3

As a journalist, I expect literally every government to do this. https://t.co/dyRugJS8vr
— Emma Loop (@LoopEmma) May 8, 2021
Ummmm. No. This is not accurate. https://t.co/ERMush2Yjh
— Soledad O'Brien (@soledadobrien) May 8, 2021
Hoo boy…
None of these things are new. Obama did all of them. FDR had the secret service destroying cameramen’s film and equipment for taking photos showing him in his wheelchair.
— Erik Soderstrom (@soderstrom) May 8, 2021
You misspelled "Obama"

Just gonna leave this here. pic.twitter.com/DIvQQRpCBA
— Eric Spencer (@JustEric) May 8, 2021
Obama literally did all those things and you liked it. https://t.co/YXD9Atp9XU

Imagine not only believing this shit
but that the only reason it changed
was due to Trump. https://t.co/knRWaDRslV— Matthew D. Dempster (@dempstermd) May 8, 2021
As an American citizen, I fully expect my government is lying, hiding Info, and trying to expand its powers at all times. As my forefathers said I should. https://t.co/Nb8RJmxFzx

Perhaps @MichLKosinski should talk to @SharylAttkisson or @JamesRosenTV. #History https://t.co/xMUvA3IToS

That’s an excellent suggestion. Also you might remember Kosinski from a notorious moment in “journalism”:
This you? pic.twitter.com/ZGIU5pYEDh https://t.co/2DhJ81zwpX
— Ian Miles Cheong (@stillgray) May 8, 2021
LOL! Oh, the memories.
But Kocinski has doubled down in her own defense:
And look at all the people who countenanced the Trump admin’s unAmerican actions— AND CONTINUE TO DO SO.
Bill Barr. Mike Pompeo. Nikki Haley.
The list goes on and on…— Michelle Kosinski (@MichLKosinski) May 8, 2021
Oh, look who came out to cry about how Trump’s tens of thousands of outright lies, treasonous allegiances, and attacks on democracy itself are somehow equivalent.
They aren’t.— Michelle Kosinski (@MichLKosinski) May 8, 2021
Well in that case…
That's not what you said. You said you "never expect" the U.S. government to repeatedly lie, hide information from the public, and spy on journalists. All of these things have happened, more or less constantly, for an extremely long time.
