Today some House and Senate Democrats, including Sen. Ed Markey and Rep. Jerrold Nadler, announced a bill that would add four justices to the Supreme Court. According to Rep. Nadler, it wouldn’t constitute “packing the court” but rather “unpacking the court.” Yeah, nobody believes that.
In any case, Democrats tried to make it seem that changing the number of seats on the Supreme Court isn’t uncommon, pointing out that it’s been done seven times in the nation’s history.
Sen. Markey debuts bill to expand the Supreme Court: ’We are here today because the U.S. Supreme Court is broken. It is out of balance and it needs to be fixed … the court is broken because Leader Mitch McConnell, his Senate Republican colleagues, and Donald Trump broke it.’ pic.twitter.com/psdGev2JWC

Rep. Nadler on his bill to expand the Supreme Court: "As our country has grown, so should the Supreme Court. 13 justices for 13 circuits is a logical progression…and to rectify the great injustice that was done in packing the court." https://t.co/Z1gC6BePs8 pic.twitter.com/sb0gJGEFMA

But there’s something the Dems didn’t say, which is the last time it’s been done:

Nadler says "the size of the Supreme Court has changed 7 times in this country's history" but of course doesn't point out it's been at 9 justices since 1869.

Obviously the Democrats prefer to say “it’s been done seven times in our country’s history” rather than saying “this hasn’t been done in 152 years”:
Here's the text of the new bill from Sen. Markey and Reps. Nadler, Johnson, and Jones to expand SCOTUS from nine justices to 13. It's been at nine since the Circuit Judges Act of 1869 (https://t.co/JJ3zXRwNlz) pic.twitter.com/znjKomV1ps

Nadler: Hey, it happens all the time!
So no slavery and 9 justices has been the norm for 150 years, but they want to change that?

But TRUMP was the one who Dems accused of being a threat to America’s institutional norms? Please.
