About a month ago, ABC News political analyst Matthew Dowd wanted the media (and everybody else) to keep chewing on the Covington story and hammering “the kids, their parents and the school” no matter what:
Matthew Dowd calls on followers not to let Covington boys off the hook, ‘regardless of what led up to this’ https://t.co/GBpOXVw6Nh

Folks, let us not let these kids, their parents, and their school off the hook. Regardless of what led up to this, this is awful. @secupp @JohnJHarwood https://t.co/YUNunjQymw

Fast forward about four weeks, and for some reason Dowd has a completely different view of the Jussie Smollett story:
Of all the stories that have come out this week, the Smollet case shouldn’t even be in the top ten of our focus. Those of us in the media and political folks at all levels should really drink from a jug of perspective each morning.

Well isn’t that a shocker! No, not really.
Matthew’s criteria for determining the importance of news: “Does this news help Democrats or hurt Republicans?” If yes, then NEWSWORTHY. If no, then NOT NEWSWORTHY.

Of course it shouldn't. I mean the only reason it was national news for weeks is because it fit the leftist narrative. Now that its a proven hoax all it does is hurt their narrative. So obviously they no longer want to cover the story. It's too damning to their cause https://t.co/Uqwkm3DgTv

This didn't work out the way you wanted it to, so now you're going to shut up about it. No one will see through that, @matthewjdowd. https://t.co/VZLpFRfxI3

“Priorities,” MSM-style!
That might be reasonable if Smollett's initial accusation wasn't covered so heavily by national media as fact only to have it blow up in Smollett's face.
To deny its importance now is really disingenuous and yet another lesson to wait before jumping headfirst into these stories. https://t.co/MxI1L25Fuj

Smollet was the top trend in the United States on Twitter for 2 days. He didn't get there because people like you or I were tweeting about it. Ellen Page was the top trend as well.

Tell that to the Chicago PD

What if the story of the attack had been true? Would it have been a top ten then? https://t.co/Kc6wnH6k1M

Don’t you work for ABC who aired an interview with Jussie? https://t.co/qUdjcyPbk0

Why yes — yes he does.
