As you now know, some of the most accurate reporting on the evolving Jusse Smollett story has come out of local Chicago media, and it’s led to some very WTF-worthy shots & chasers:
It’s a very complicated and boring process. pic.twitter.com/0yrwyvKbhy

How many more times does this have to happen? (h/t @CanineDefenseLg) pic.twitter.com/2Eg0dIgwfT

Yep, this sure is something:
FWIW — I think booking @RobElgasABC7 and the other local Chicago reporters who have led the way on this story would be an excellent idea https://t.co/0Y20XxeNNA

CNN’s Brian Stelter, has he’s done in the past, tried to explain that it’s “complicated”:
Local stations frequently say no to our booking requests. It's very complicated for reasons that will probably bore you ? Network relationships, etc. But we regularly try anyway
— Brian Stelter (@brianstelter) February 18, 2019
And with that, Fox 32’s Weigel explained why he was only on Fox News programs talking about Jussie Smollett:
For those asking me why I only went on @seanhannity @IngrahamAngle and @ShannonBream on @FoxNews, to talk #JussieSmollett and not any others—simply, they are the national TV shows that asked me to come on.

And for the “you can’t make this up” coup de grâce…
And the chaser. pic.twitter.com/CJQe0Jb2JI

The media editor for The Wrap intervened:
Would you appear on CNN's @ReliableSources if asked? https://t.co/L6rZLi1oGc
— Jon Levine (@LevineJonathan) February 20, 2019
Of course.
— Rafer Weigel (@RaferWeigel) February 20, 2019
CC @brianstelter — Would you be willing to invite Mr. Weigel on?
— Jon Levine (@LevineJonathan) February 20, 2019
An invitation at this point would be totally genuine. *Eye roll*
“If asked”
Big if there.
But maybe @brianstelter can be “persuaded” into it.

It’s “complicated,” apparently.
Editor’s note: The title has been corrected to fix a typo.
