WHAT!? Did this Daily Beast editor stretch Greg Abbott's joke just a LITTLE too far?

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott made a joke that was bound to raise some progressive eyebrows:

.@GovAbbott shows reporters his target sheet. #txlege pic.twitter.com/tQpPEVzecM

— Patrick Svitek (@PatrickSvitek) May 26, 2017

"I'm gonna carry this around in case I see any reporters," @GovAbbott joked. https://t.co/ME7X8nbVx5

Daily Beast National Editor Justin Sink went full contortionist to connect that tweet to a deadly terrorist attack:

What? Gee, that’s, um, quite a leap there:

Are you fucking kidding me?

It's Republican politicians who kill people over cartoons.

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) May 26, 2017

The election really did send these guys over the edge.

It’s stupid, and worthy of a tsunami of reality checks:

Uh bro, those weren't American politicians who shot up Charlie Hebdo, nor were they inspired by it. JFC you colossal clown https://t.co/uMENyDefEB

— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) May 26, 2017

Greg Abbott went back in time and inspired the Charlie Hebdo killers, who also happened to be Islamic terrorists. https://t.co/8GD8WOGAw1

Justin lighten up Frances it a joke he not going to kill anyone.

— ????? ???? ???? ?????! (@BradEssex) May 26, 2017

Dude, lighten up. It's a picture and the guys in Hebdo were terrorist. It'll be ok. https://t.co/TxEs81GUEd

When Texans kill cartoonists for mocking Jesus, get back to us. Until then, your comparison is ridiculous. https://t.co/oFPZaIAkXz

— Myla (@MewHissMew) May 26, 2017

One teeny tiny little problem with your scenario here. Terrorists killed the journalists at Charlie Hebdo….. https://t.co/l2tuFiDtnA

— JenniferW (@JenWoodruff79) May 26, 2017

Give me a break, dude.

— Stephen Gutowski (@StephenGutowski) May 26, 2017

I can't imagine why people hate the media so much. But please continue… https://t.co/6MJaqv8Mvs
