'I asked my mom'? Here's the mother of all Elizabeth Warren pregnancy story 'fact checks' from the media

The media running cover for Elizabeth Warren, saying those calling out her lie have been engaged in a “sexist trope” or of “pouncing.” This one is, however, a fresh approach to fact checking:

Elizabeth Warren's pregnancy discrimination story is legit. I asked my mom. https://t.co/DCwMpn9K2H

Ho. Lee. Cow. They really did that:

This is something @TheBabylonBee probably considered writing but thought it sounded too ridiculous https://t.co/3wFzsaseOj

omg this is real, i can't stop laughing https://t.co/zcYOevmKX4

It’s real, and it’s spectacularly embarrassing for the media (again).

Was your mom’s name Elizabeth Warren or was she a principal at the school? Because I’m not sure how else she would know… https://t.co/urirprCmlP

This is so demonstrably the very definition of a fallacy that I can't believe I need to say this, but:

1) Some As are Bs
2) I am an A
3) Therefore, I am a B

Is not a logically sound argument. https://t.co/rrK8zuzht5

My mom told me the Tooth Fairy was real, too https://t.co/IOiLSmUiDP

Democrats definitely eat babies. I asked my mom. https://t.co/4qOaYqtKn8

I’m considering ending all tweets with “I asked my mom”. https://t.co/0SFckvVzQ3

Media coverage dismissing legitimate questions about Warren's pregnancy discrimination story feels like a parody of itself at this point. https://t.co/ZXJ2Qa5DwJ

Just to be clear…. a writer at a news organization decided this was a news-worthy thing to write, and then an editor saw it and decided, "yeah, this is completely on-par with basic journalistic standards" and published it https://t.co/XgYy0fCG61

And yet we have a feeling we’re far from reaching peak “journalism” during this election cycle.
