Yesterday we told you about some Vox writers who took to Twitter to complain about the pay from Vox Media, and today things came to a head as Vox Media Union announced a walkout:
Today‘s our last scheduled day of bargaining.@voxmediainc is still apart from us on:
– competitive wage scales
– strong guaranteed raises
– better severance
– subcontracting workWe’ve decided we’re not showing up to work today until we resolve these issues.

Progressive hot takes and explainers from a variety of Vox Media sites are either on hold or being done by management:
Good morning, @CurbedNY will not be publishing today! Here's why! Contract now! https://t.co/giM5cY5aRF

If you see stories or tweets on @EaterDallas and @EaterHouston today, they're not from me. Our management has taken it upon themselves to post while I join the @vox_union in a walkout for better wages and strong severance. ??? https://t.co/z4mJ7kWZFj

Walking out in solidarity with my union today! https://t.co/qJtPJbnOHu

I’ve arrived in the UK for a reporting trip but I’m not writing or posting or emailing or researching today, because we need this to be resolved. https://t.co/e7ycTfBk56

Apologies to everyone who was looking forward to some more World Cup stuff from me and other writers at SB Nation today. The company isn’t doing enough for my entry-level colleagues and I feel it’s important for me to stand with them. https://t.co/F8Qbn6wSkS

Others in the media unionization world voiced their support for the Vox Media walkout:
We are working through many of the same issues as we bargain our first contract, too. Stay strong, Vox colleagues. ✊ https://t.co/m9D4LqwFBQ

We stand with the Vox Media Union as they continue to fight for a fair contract ✊ https://t.co/ul3y2di0pS

Extra solidarity with @vox_union today. It’s far from easy to make the decision to walk out — we know it! — but there’s power in a work stoppage.
Get what you’re owed. Fair contract NOW. https://t.co/55WMGL208e

The NYMag Union stands with our friends at Vox as they work hard to secure a fair contract on their last day of bargaining. #Solidarity ✊ https://t.co/kq5J9fysPQ

VICE Union is sending love and solidarity to all workers at Vox as they take their sites dark today, their last scheduled day of bargaining.
All of you are inspiring to us. Keep up the fight. https://t.co/I7dtNwG9hA

However, not everybody’s impressed by the Vox Media Union walkout — or even noticed for that matter:
Did anyone even notice Vox Media sites were dark today? https://t.co/NSvMgcaCmU
— Greg Pollowitz (@GPollowitz) June 6, 2019
Did anyone care is the bigger question…

They want to deplatform everybody, even themselves.

Finally, and to everyone's great relief, the entire Vox staff has been automated and replaced with an AI that's been trained solely on Obama's speeches https://t.co/HvHX0oCM6T

Bernie Sanders really might want to think about dropping his crusades against the likes of McDonald’s and Walmart and instead go help out his Vox Media Union brothers and sisters before they’re replaced by kiosks.
