NYT Blames 'Editing Error' for Saying Israelis See Themselves As the Victims of October 7

Journalism meme

As our own Just Mindy reported earlier, The New York Times on Wednesday published a piece about the Venice Film Festival, which managed to include the astonishing sentence, "But Israelis still largely view themselves as the victims of Oct. 7." The Times was dragged up and down, and on Wednesday afternoon, its public relations account attributed the sentence to an "editing error."

The post continues:

… government’s military response to the Oct. 7 terror attack in relation to the attacks, but inadvertently suggested that Israelis’ experience as terror victims was a matter of perception. It has been removed from the article."

That was more than an editing error. An alleged professional journalist thought up that sentence and typed it out. That was intentional.

That's what they're saying, and it's not surprising that the editor who let this through didn't manage to catch the overt antisemitism in the writer's submission and remove it before publishing. The editor didn't notice anything wrong.
