New York City Dedicates $65 Million to Trans-Only Homeless Shelter (With Yoga!)

Twitchy

I suppose this is better than men infiltrating women's shelters, but it's still amazing to me how transgender people can claim they're the most oppressed when a city like New York will bend over backward to build a trans-only homeless shelter. I thought if Zohran Mamdani won, he was going to turn the subways into homeless shelters, but those might not be safe for trans folk.

Listen to this:

I thought that claim was a little dubious, so I did some checking on Ace's Place, and it's real, and it really did cost $65 million. As the woman says in the video, this came from a legal settlement by the city in a lawsuit that was filed back in 2017. Mariah Lopez, a Black and Latinx (that's what Grok gave me) transgender woman with disabilities — wow, that's really high on the intersectionality scale — alleged "severe discrimination, harassment, and abuse in the city's shelter system based on her transgender status and sex." She was even misgendered by staff.

Ace's Place opened in August 2025 and fulfilled the conditions of New York City's settlement.

That's apparently not the construction cost alone. New York City has made a $65 million commitment through 2030 for the nonprofit Destination Tomorrow to operate the facility.

Homeless veterans should claim they identify as trans. The place looks pretty nice.

Yep. If you're a man who identifies as a woman, you're going to want to stay in a women's shelter.

Mariah Lopez, executive director of the "Strategic Transgender Alliance for Radical Reform."

This won't satisfy the trans community, the most oppressed community in America. They can never be accomodated enough.
