Our own Chad Felix Greene has done a great job covering the death of a 16-year-old high school sophomore who was allegedly beaten to death by bullies because she identified as nonbinary. The medical examiner determined that Nex Benedict hadn't died from trauma, and now we have police video of Benedict in the hospital, where she was taken the day after the fight in the bathroom because she collapsed at home.
It's tragic that she died, but we don't know what from. But at least one LGBTQ activist who goes by the pronouns they/she seems to want allies not to watch the videos or listen to the 911 call. "Your commitment to justice for Nex isn't lessened by not watching or listening to it."
The LGBTQ community wants they own George Floyd so badly, but it looks like this case doesn't fit the bill.
I want 2SLGBTQ+ folks to be aware that today Owasso Police released body cam and school security cam footage of Nex, and audio of Nex's mom's 911 call on Nex's final day. Your commitment to justice for Nex isn't lessened by not watching or listening to it.

Nex was the bully.https://t.co/hl6GeoMzzZ

It's looking like she started it.
The “amplification” that caused the most harm to the LGTB community were initial posts about Nex’s attack & tragic death. Assumptions were made, conclusive causal statements were made & as a result, kids felt MORE frightened.

The lesson is patience over quick political points.
As I've written, the reasons for her tragic death seem to be the state's law on school bathrooms and a Libs of TikTok post from a couple of years ago reposting a video uploaded by a teacher at the same school.
I've been seeing a lot more post hoc ergo propter hoc headlines, the more we learn. "Nonbinary teen dies after fight at school," not "Nonbinary teen dies because of a fight at school." Initial reports that her head was bashed in because of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric are falling apart.
Certain communities love to write a narrative, facts be damned.

She was the bully and the aggressor. You're literally telling people to ignore ALL of the evidence and pretend she was a victim. She wasn't. And her death had nothing to do with her deluded identity.

Watched it. They never bullied her and she assaulted them first. It’s a tragedy but not a hate crime. She shouldn’t have started it.

You still pushing for "justice?" SHE instigated the fight. In the video, SHE bragged about slamming a girl's head in a towel dispenser. You people are so desperate to normalize your mental illness, you'll stand on the grave of an instigator while pretending SHE's a victim.

Watch it. Watch it and pay attention. Then realize the trans mob is lying about most of what occurred.

I have no idea why she died. She looked and sounded OK in the hospital video. "But your commitment to justice for Nex isn't lessened by not watching or listening to it."
Don't watch the video or listen to the 911 call … she wants you to stay mad that Nex was murdered for being nonbinary.
